Born in San Diego, CA, where his father served as a Naval Officer and his mother taught school, he moved to New England at age two and was raised in Boston, MA. His academic journey took him to Wesleyan University to study Economics and engage in varsity Football and Baseball. Following a back injury that ended his sports career, he transferred to Boston College, earning his degree in Accountancy with honors.
After college, he quickly passed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst exams on his initial attempts. He further solidified his expertise by attending Columbia University's Executive Value Investing Program under Professor Greenwald.
Walsh began his career in 1998 at Prudential Capital Group and Prudential Securities, focusing on Commercial Real Estate and REITs. He advanced to Vice President at Deutsche Bank Securities, Inc., within the Real Estate, Gaming, Lodging, and Leisure Investment Banking Group before his role as a partner in a value-oriented hedge fund in Chicago paved the way to founding PW Partners.
Patrick's professional path is characterized by an entrepreneurial flair that has propelled him into leadership roles across diverse industries. He has impacted companies such as BJ's Restaurants, Del Taco, Famous Dave's of America, and Town Sports International through board memberships, driving substantial improvements in their operations and market standings. His effectiveness in these roles was recognized when Restaurant News named him one of the 50 most potent industry figures 2015.
Patrick was recognized as the Entrepreneur of the Year in 2018 by Ernst and Young in New York, highlighting his significant contributions to corporate turnarounds. Most notably, he saved Town Sports International from near bankruptcy in 2016. Under his leadership, the company's stock value increased dramatically, reflecting over a 1,000% gain by 2018.
