About Me
Hi! I'm Mitch Goldman, and I'm passionate about building great products and user experiences, while delivering on time & budget.

I have experience in a variety of domains: recommendations & personalisation systems, e-commerce on the Magento platform, and software test management. I'm also an avid a tech community organizer (RecSys Meetup, Magento Meetup, Communities of Practice) and presenter.

Some of my proudest career achievements are:
  • At Sky, as product lead of several new recommendation features on SkyQ and NowTV: Personalised Genres, Because You Watched, Trending/Most Popular.
  • At StoreGecko leading the product development from a prototype into a fully-featured, scalable, go-to-market product.
  • At Made.com overseeing all changes to the e-commerce website, including the localisation of new websites to expand into Italy, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.
  • I grew the London Magento Users Group into a 1350+ and growing community, for which I produced events for networking, startup pitches, and hackathons.
  • At Session Digital (Inviqa), I earned a bonus for building their Testing practice from scratch, including recruiting the right testers to embedding testing into their Agile development process.

In 2016 I published the e-book "The Ultimate Guide to Magento for Managers." I also do speaking engagements, and I'm available on topics ranging from e-commerce, product ownership, software testing, and Agile. My latest talk was in Oct 2016 at TeCOMM (Romania) titled “Jobs To Be Done in product data management.”

  • From inception to delivery, I work with a worldwide team to build new product features & extensions for the DXP Digital Experience Platform. DXP is a "low code" platform to design, deploy, manage and optimize customer journeys across multiple channels, with little to no coding experience.
  • Led new products & features: Ops Toolkit, concurrent app execution, self-serve publishing, encryption at rest.
  • I was also on the Product Community of Practice leadership team, trained on the Scaled Agile Framework, on the steering team for migration to Aha!, and collaborated with marketing/sales on competitor analysis.
  • Product Lead for the recommendation & personalisation features at Sky.
  • Led new products from inception to launch: Personalised Genres, Because You Watched, Trending/Most Popular, and a new More Like This recs engine.
  • Worked on the full suite of Sky propositions: Sky+, SkyQ, NowTV, Sky Go app, and across all territories: UK, ROI, IT, DE, Spain.
  • Product Owner. Setting and leading the product vision and roadmap, and working with the design & development teams to deliver on them.
  • Sales Partnerships. Finding, negotiating, and getting sales agreements signed with resellers and commission-based sales partners.
  • Strategic Partnerships. Leading new business development opportunities with technical partners.
  • Leading the Beta program, and conducting customer research based on "jobs to be done" practices.
  • Instrumental in finding investors, doing investor pitches, and negotiating funding rounds.
  • Leading a team to write the onboarding & knowledgebase content.
  • Handling customer service calls in Intercom.

  • Product owner on a cross-functional team with UX, design, development, and test.
  • Developed the product roadmap and vision of re-platforming the Travelex websites onto a modern e-commerce front end: Django CMS + AngularJS, with API integrations to the legacy systems. The "wildly important goal" is to deliver features to customers weekly instead of every 3-6 months as on the legacy system.
  • Created and managed the A/B testing and Conversion Rate Optimisation process using Qubit. I analysed the data for weak & bright spots, created the test hypothesis, designed the tests, and measured the results.
  • Supported business-as-usual website improvements for the marketing teams and online country managers.
  • Customer research using the "Jobs To Be Done" framework.
  • Product Owner for all new features and business-as-usual support on the website. I was the bridge between the technical team and the rest of the company, including the CEO, CFO, Managing Director, and marketing & country managers.
  • I also served as the interim CTO (6 months) and Development Manager (14 months) until those positions were filled.
  • HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Developing a playbook to rapidly launch new international sites: Italy (2013), Netherlands and Belgium (2014), and Germany (2015).
  • Redesigning the checkout to make it mobile-friendly. Integrating payment gateways such as Paypal, Sagepay, Postepay, Adyen, Klarna/Sofort, and iDEAL.
  • Managing the Conversion Rate Optimisation and A/B testing programme.
  • Optimising Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics for better marketing attribution and gathering customer data.
  • Launching "grouped products" and "on-demand products" to expand the product range that could be sold online.
  • Streamlining the content management process and improving the website's performance to handle peak "sales season" traffic.
  • The largest & most active Magento meetup group in the world, with over 1000 members.
  • I manage all fundraising and sponsorship, booking the speakers, planning the venues, and email promotion & social media.
  • I also organise the annual hackathon ("MageHack") and startup pitch events ("Demo Day").
  • JOIN US!! We love to see new faces, and usually there's free beer.
  • I acted in many roles at Wedo:
  • Development Manager: I built the team from 1 to 4 developers, plus an external DevOps and support team.
  • Product Owner: I managed the backlog and development roadmap for 5 Magento e-commerce sites, customer support, and data reporting.
  • I launched a new website (Wedo Dining Room Furniture) and created a detailed checklist for quickly rolling out additional sites.
  • Scrum Master: I implemented Agile processes, Scrum plus Specification by Example.
  • Project Manager: I achieved super-efficient task management using Asana instead of email.
  • Agile Project Manager on PHP projects, mostly Magento e-commerce clients.
  • KEY PROJECTS:
  • Hillarys Web Blinds: upgrading from Magento 1.6 to 1.9, plus conversion optimisation and a website redesign.
  • Magento Go: consulting on rollout of the UK localised version of their e-commerce SAAS.
  • Kookai clothing: launching their UK site and then following it with a French site with own delivery system.
  • as Test Manager:
  • Built the test team from scratch and enabled the company to add testing as a value-added service.
  • Recruited and trained all testers, and developed the company's testing process. Introduced test automation with Selenium and Behat.
  • After 3 years as a top performing Senior Managing Test Consultant, I was then promoted to run the entire UK office.
  • I managed all client engagements, new SOWs, extensions, and wrote the proposals along with the Sales team.
