Engineer in charge of a high pressure and high temperature aeronautic combustion test bench
Facility operation and data acquisition management LabVIEW
Detailed Description
This job is in the framework of some projects as the PERCEVAL project founded by SAFRAN AIRCRAFT, the european project SOPRANO or APLAREP for example.
As the engineer in charge I operate the facility, I perform maintenance task and of development of the bench (main and secondary systems, pressure and temperature sensors, etc.)
I support the setup and application of optical diagnostics
I deal with suppliers, techniciens and researchers
Company Description
INSA Rouen is a member of the INSA GROUPE, a French network of 14 engineering schools.
Conception of a test bench, applied to research in combustion coupled with acoustic perturbations.
Design and dimensioning of a liquid fuel feed system.
Design and dimensioning of a burn gases cooling system before exhaust.
Application of advanced optical diagnostics (LDA/PDPA, laser tomography, PIV).
Advanced data analysis and image post-processing (e.g., Dynamic Mode Decomposition).
Multidisciplinary work: technical (working with techniciens of the workshop), administrative (managing budgets, dealing with suppliers, among others), scientific (discussing with professors and researchers).
Analysis of the combustion behavior when flames undergoing thermoacoustic instabilities.
Obtention of original results: saturation of the system response revealed for the first time experimentally in two-phase flow combustion.
Development of an innovative aerodynamic flame-stabilization system.
Detailed Description
Ph.D. title: IMPACT OF TRANSVERSE ACOUSTIC MODES ON A LINEARLY ARRANGED TWO-PHASE FLOW SWIRLING FLAMES
Study domain: Thermoacoustic instabilities of the combustion
Thermoacoustic instabilities are an undesirable phenomena that hinder the development of new combustion system technologies.
In gas turbines and rocket engines, thermoacoustic instabilities arise very often, their amplification can diminish the energy efficiency of the system and even destroy the combustor.

I studied the stabilization and lift condition of the flame for different conditions of dilution: injection of CO2, N2, Ar in the fuel-jet and/or in the air-jet.
This research topic concerns two practical areas:
flame extinction and fire safety.
energy efficiency of industrial combustion chambers with gas recirculation.
Optical diagnostics application (numeric tomography by Abel inversion method).
Images post-processing.
Report writing.
Final project in order to obtain the engineer degree.
The spontaneous emission of chemical radicals (CH*, C2*, OH*) present during the combustion of biodiesel in a counter flow burner allowed to study the concentration of these radicals during the combustion process of a laminar flame.
