A professor of biological sciences with the University of South Carolina for nearly two decades, Timothy Mousseau, PhD, also serves as SURA/NASA Visiting Scientist at the Kennedy Space Center. Timothy Mousseau additionally maintains status as a fellow with organizations such as the Royal Geographical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences.
A respected voice in his field, Dr. Mousseau has been studying radiation zones in Chernobyl, Ukraine, and Fukushima, Japan, for many years. In “Strong effects of ionizing radiation from Chernobyl on mutation rates” (Scientific Reports, 2015), he looked at 45 published studies in exploring the relationship between mutation rates and radiation across 30 species.
Dr. Mousseau earned his bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Ottawa cum laude, and undertook zoology graduate work at the University of Toronto. He completed his doctoral studies at McGill University and subsequently served as an NSERC postdoctoral fellow with the University of California, Davis. An aviation enthusiast, Timothy Mousseau is active with the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
