Sue Schardt is a Massachusetts based strategist and producer and a longstanding presence across the network of public media stations. She created a new entity, Margin Media in 2018, and served as the founding executive producer of Localore, a landmark initiative designed to expand public media’s audience to be more reflective of the rich diversity of America today. Sue Schardt's work challenges the status quo and seeks to expand the impact of public media today.
Over more than a decade, Ms Schardt created a new field of opportunity for independent talent to invent and bring to life their vision of what public media can do and be; her creative passion infuses the many facets of the Localore production.
The Localore teams dispatched across the country work for up to a year to assemble local units in partnership with public radio and television producers and journalists and those living in the local community. In all, Localore teams generated thousands of stories across audio, video, television, digital, and live event platforms. Through partnerships with both local and national outlets, Localore had a collective impact of 76.5 million gross impressions.
For more than a decade previous to Localore, Schardt operated SchardtMEDIA providing strategic program development and research services to leading radio networks and stations, including NPR, WNYC, Chicago Public Media, and American Public Media, as well as overseas broadcasters eager for new approaches to reach American listeners. With support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and a consortium of leading stations, Sue Schardt led pioneering research into programming and economic drivers of U.S. public radio stations. With World Radio Network, she developed an overnight service for NPR that was distributed to more than one hundred stations, including eight of the top ten markets in the U.S.
