Sanford Michelman

Sanford Michelman completed a B.A. in sociology at University of California, Los Angeles before earning his J.D. at Southwestern University School of Law. In 1999, Sanford Michelman founded Michelman & Robinson, LLP.

Serving as the firm’s Managing Partner for the first 10 years, and now occupying the role of Chairman, he provides legal counsel to members of the financial services, insurance, and advertising and digital media industries. He has represented a number of clients under investigation by governmental agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, the US Department of Justice, and the Department of Insurance, among other agencies. In fact, Mr. Michelman has more trial experience against the Department of Insurance on behalf of insurance producers than any other attorney in the State.

Outside of his day to day legal practice, Sanford Michelman engages deeply in the industries in which his clients operate. For example, he sits on the board of directors of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF). In this role, he helps direct funds to a number of charitable organizations operating throughout the country and the world. Additionally, he serves on the board of directors of the Zimmer Children’s Museum and is a recipient of the Discovery Award. He has previously been recognized by the California State Bar for his pro bono work. He has received awards from the California State Bar, “Who’s Who in Law”, the Daily Journal’s Top 20 under 40, among many other such accolades.
