Cataloguing: performed original & copy cataloguing of both printed and non-print monographs and serials.
Write work manuals for training of new professional and support staffs.
Supervision & training: supervised paraprofessionals and all professional trainees on:
Creating and maintaining name and subject authorities;
Current changes of information science;
Daily routine duties and awareness of library new technologies and trends;
Keeping track of changes of profession work tools;
Online checking and verifying newly ordered titles;
Online databases and CD-ROMs searching techniques and strategies via Internet or networking;
Retrospective conversion of monographs & serials of the main library and law serials of the law library (Project);
Original cataloguing by using USMARC, DDC20, LCSH and AACR2;
Evaluation of paraprofessionals’ performance by writing personal reports, recommendation letters and performance appraisals;
Policy & decision: assisted the Sub-Librarian in making daily work flows of the Dept. and any other policies related to cataloguing, e.g. Authorities Control and Retrospective Conversion by writing procedure sheets and work manuals;
assisted the Sub-Librarian to prepare reports which were related to achievements and targeted future years’ objectives of the Cataloguing Dept.;
represented the Cataloguing Dept. in meetings and joint projects.
Liaison: represented the Cataloguing Dept. to liaise with internal library departments, e.g. Serials, Systems, Reference, Acquisitions for the purposes of carrying out joint projects;
Client-oriented services: conducted library tours to undergraduates, postgraduates and outsiders.
Maintenance: kept updates of all cataloguing manuals and software including, USMARC, LCSH, AACR2, Bibliofile, CDMARC Bibliographic, CDMARC Names, CDMARC Subjects and all hardware needed for using work tools in the CD-ROM format at the Cataloguing Department, for instance, PCs, CD-ROM drives and printers.
