Over the last three decades, Robert Anthony Nolan has cultivated diverse expertise as a pilot and aviation pioneer, inventor and designer in Virginia Beach and across the globe. He began his career by joining the United States Navy, serving in the North Atlantic, Central American, South American, European and Middle Eastern regions. He was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asian Service Medal w/star, Good Conduct Medal w/star, received the “Sailor of the Year” award as well qualifying as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist. He was often called upon to serve as the Fleet Forces Spanish language Interpreter specifically for the Admiral. During that same time period, Robert Anthony Nolan qualified as a Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, Test Pilot, Bush Pilot and Pilot in Command of Search & Rescue Missions and qualified to fly 22 different types of aircraft. He also qualified as a Master Scuba Diver with 9 specialties and a Marksman with a number of weapons.

Subsequently, Mr. Nolan went on to assist the US Navy and US Army for several years by assessing the physical security of various military installations by becoming a solo "Red Cell" operator, assessing, planning and executing the breaking into the various military installations, then revealing how he accomplished it so those vulnerabilities could be closed. Most notably for 13 years he invented, designed, built, test piloted/drove a military-grade off-road ground vehicle that was the first and still only FAA certified day/night VFR/IFR flying off-road ground and air vehicle and has been awarded patents by the USPO. In addition to a number of US-based tests, he has operated the ground vehicle/aircraft in the Middle East. On July 27th, 2007, Mr. Nolan set off on a cross-country flight test with version number 6 of his craft, which a FAA certified mechanic had just changed the oil in his engine. while overhead the city of Suffolk, VA his engine suddenly and violently seized. he regained control of the aircraft and was gliding down to land on a city street when suddenly a man, woman, young child and dog walked into the road, looked up at his craft and froze. Mr. Nolan realized that he would most likely severely hurt or kill them with the impact of his aircraft so he made a decision to make a 20 degree turn to the left and fly himself into a tree so as not to hurt anybody, which he did. The aircraft was destroyed beyond repair and Mr. Nolan broke his back in 3 places. Both the FAA and Miami NTSB investigations revealed that the FAA mechanic performed the maintenance improperly, resulting in the separation of the oil filter from the engine.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Mr. Nolan enjoys staying active in a number of activities such as; scuba-diving, power-parachuting, snow skiing, water skiing, riding horses, mountain biking and riding motorcycles.
