Rinat Akhmetov founded System Capital Management in 2000 which he continues to operate today. In 2005, he created the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation to help Ukrainian citizens facing difficult challenges.
For him, charity starts with the ability to feel another person’s pain. When he first became involved in charitable work, Akhmetov donated mainly to personal causes. Although that helped address one person’s need at a time, he soon realized that he could increase his impact by helping to solve larger societal issues.
Five years after launching SCM, Akhmetov started the Foundation for Development of Ukraine. In 2014, he opened a Humanitarian Center in response to the tremendous suffering of Ukrainian citizens due to the ongoing war in Donbas. Both organizations have assisted thousands of Ukrainians to meet practical needs and live their best lives.
