Rathana Ung

With a strong community commitment, Rathana Ung has focused significant efforts on village-building efforts in developing countries such as Cambodia. Her charitable work alongside friends and family members included constructing of hundreds of basic homes to meet the needs of those living in shanties or in the open. Rathana Ung also participated in efforts to create a floating school and construct a hospital that provides critical care to pregnant women.

Ms. Ung’s charitable activities have also included food and clothing donations to those living in extremely remote areas. She has worked alongside community members to provide food and water to a number of Muslim Cambodian families, who face a burden of discrimination in their daily lives. A core focus is on encouraging unity in a country that was war-ravaged until the recent past and is now in a sustained rebuilding phase.

Ms. Ung is an avid reader and considers Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice her favorite book. A culinary enthusiast, she particularly enjoys preparing large meals. Each year at Thanksgiving, she cooks turkey as well as side dishes such as candied yams and mashed potatoes.
