About Me
Having served as the CEO of several large companies, Portland resident Mike Edwards has turned around troubled retail and e-commerce businesses and boosted their performance. Currently, Mike Edwards serves as an independent director of Central Garden & Pet, devising digitization strategies for the company’s 30 brands. A native of Portland, Oregon, he recently signed on as interim CEO of Tri-State Bank in Memphis, Tennessee.

Mr. Edwards previously led eBags.com, a luggage provider that was over-diversified in apparel offerings. He helped raise quarterly growth from 2 to 20 percent by returning the company’s focus to luggage. As a result, he won the Customer Service Award of the Year from Multi-Channel Retailer. Prior to eBags, Mr. Edwards played a key role in Staples’ restructuring of its merchandising.

Mr. Edwards faced perhaps his greatest challenge as the CEO of Borders Books, where he tried to reverse the company’s declining fortunes by arranging a buyout. Employees lauded his efforts at saving the company

A happier outcome came earlier with his turnaround of women’s wear provider Lucy Activewear. On Mr. Edwards’ watch, the company’s revenue grew from $8 million to $70 million in 3 years. He was honored for this achievement by the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Mr. Edwards has held board seats with several other organizations, such as Drexel University, where he graduated with a BS in business and marketing. Other board memberships include Flexsteel Industries and Muttropolis.com. In his leisure time, he enjoys traveling and playing golf.
