About Me
Michael Teys is a well-known strata advisor, researcher, trainer and presenter. Michael Teys works with property professionals, institutional property owners, and property managers navigating complex issues relating to strata titled property and management.

Over the length of his career, Michael has mainly focused on strata owners, committees, managers and suppliers.

Michael has a dynamic range of experience as a former strata lawyer and strata manager, including:

• 33 years in private practice as a specialist strata lawyer.

• Majority owner of 11 strata management firms managing over 25,000 apartments throughout Australia.

• Author, ‘Growing Up – How Strata Title Bodies Might Learn to Behave’ (Major Street Publishing, 2015).

• Television host, presenter and strata expert for SKY News Business Channel and Margaret Lomas’, ‘Property Investing Matters’ on www.mypropertytv.com.au.

• Co-creator of the strata renewal concept adopted by NSW in 2015 for termination of strata schemes by collective sale and redevelopment plans.
Michael's advisory work in the corporate sector is supported by his academic research of the strata industry.

Michael Teys works with City Futures Research Centre at UNSW where he has been awarded an Australian Research Council funded scholarship to complete a Master of Philosophy (Built Environment). Michael's thesis is on the impact of large-scale mixed-use developments on urban renewal, and this work is part of a larger ARC-funded study, Reassembling the City: Understanding Resident Led Collective Sales of Property.

Michael has also previously worked as a research fellow for Deakin University, where he participated in studies relating to the future of strata management and the regulation of building defects, specifically passive fire protection systems and cladding. Michael is the author of Deakin University’s, Building Defects Rectification Toolkit (2020).
Training strata managers is an essential part of Michael’s work, and he is currently the Director of Executive Education at Strata Institute Australia Pty Ltd. Michael creates practical training programs and resources that strata managers can use. Michael also writes training modules for RTO's on strata management.

Outside of his corporate life, Michael is an open water swimming champion and was awarded the 199th Triple Crown of World Open Water Swimming in 2018 for his successful solo crossings of the English Channel in 2014, the Catalina Channel USA in 2017, and the circumnavigation of Manhattan Island NY in 2018.
