Based in Jacksonville, Florida, Circuit Court Judge Michael Kalil earned his bachelor of arts in philosophy from the University of North Florida and subsequently obtained his Juris Doctor from the Stetson College of Law. Michael Kalil focused on the school’s Trial Advocacy program and received multiple awards, including the Stetson College of Law Certificate in Leadership Development and the William F. Blews Pro Bono Service Award. While pursuing his law degree, he served as a certified legal intern for the Office of the Public Defender.
From 2009 to 2011, attorney Michael Kalil was an assistant public defender for the Office of the Public Defender and tried 29 trials while focusing his practice on crimes related to juvenile delinquency, misdemeanors, and felonies. In 2011, he joined the law firm of John S. Kalil, P.A., as a civil trial lawyer, where he managed hundreds of cases. Michael Kalil served with the firm until 2020. During that time, he also served on the board of the Florida Justice Association Young Lawyers Division for two terms and was appointed to the Civil Service Board for the City of Jacksonville, Florida. Later, he was elected to the board position of vice-chairman, which he served for two years.
Michael Kalil was sworn in as a State of Florida Circuit Court Judge on January 5, 2021, and serves the Fourth Judicial Circuit, where he presides over the Delinquency Court and Dependency Court.
