About Me
Mark Mullinix’s career encompasses more three decades of experience in the financial sector, throughout which time he has held various executive roles with Federal Reserve Banks. Prior to that, he served eight years as a Marine Corps infantry officer. In 1986, he joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, where he served as the human resources officer, assistant general auditor, and vice president and managing officer of its Oklahoma City Branch over the course of a decade. In the latter role he was responsible for community and business development, payment operations, discount window lending, and corporate services. He was nationally recognized for skillfully leading Fed business resumption activities to maintain bank services to all Oklahoma financial institutions following the bombing of the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City.

Mullinix was subsequently recruited by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco as senior vice president and Los Angeles Branch's regional executive. In this role he was the senior Fed official leading bank activities serving Southern California, Arizona and Southern Nevada, which included making the business case for improving services to Arizona by constructing a Fed operations center in Phoenix to serve Arizona financial institutions, the first new regional Fed office in more than 26 years. Mullinix was promoted four years later to chief financial officer responsible for the San Francisco Bank's $60 billion balance sheet and enterprise risk management. He was later promoted to executive vice president in-charge of the Federal Reserve System's cash payments services where he led its global currency product line for 12 years.

Mullinix was subsequently recruited by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, where he served as the bank's chief operating officer. Of note, he also chaired the Fed's fiduciary committee responsible or its 40 thousand-plus employee and retiree pension, 401(k), and health plans. He subsequently was named as the Richmond Fed's interim president and chief executive officer, where he served on the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC), the Fed's monetary policy-setting committee prior to his retirement in 2018.

Upon his retirement, Janet Yellen, then the Fed Chair and currently Treasury Secretary issued the following statement: "I am grateful for Mark's long and distinguished service to the Federal Reserve. Mark has made enormous contributions to our public mission, and I have enjoyed working with him both in San Francisco and at the FOMC."
