Abstract: In recent years Cloud Computing has become very popular in terms of new technologies especially for enterprise data storage. Cloud Computing is seen as an enabler to reduce costs and to optimize usability. Nevertheless, customers are reluctant whether they can rely on this technology, due to judicial and safety reasons. In Germany the Federal Ministry for Economy and Technology, the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS) and further companies have been discussing this technology and investing millions of Euros in its research and development. Cloud Computing offers interesting economic, efficiency and ecological advantages by concentrating resources. Small and medium size businesses could possibly benefit from using these advantages. An empirical study was conducted to analyze the IT-infrastructure used by consulting engineers. The study focus besides performance requirements, the willingness of using new technology and experience with Cloud Computing. Aim of the work is to prove, how Cloud Computing possibly could help consulting engineers in solving their tasks and to stay competitive.
