About Me
A former tenured professor with the University of Minnesota and McGill University, James Ron holds a bachelor of arts in political science from Stanford University and both a master of arts and doctorate of sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. He completed a doctoral fellowship through the Brookings Institution and a postdoctoral fellowship through Brown University. Over the course of his academic and professional career, James Ron has maintained a concerted focus on human rights as viewed through the lenses of law, government policy, public opinion, and charitable aid.

In addition to conducting extensive scholarly research on the subject of human rights, James Ron has assisted in a range of initiatives for philanthropic organizations such as CARE and the American Red Cross. He also created Open Global Rights, an online platform that encourages open debate about human rights organizations. In addition to continuing to act as senior advisor for Open Global Rights, Dr. Ron serves as a research consultant for Human Rights Watch and an evaluation consultant for Life for a Child. He also heads his own independent consultancy.
