Jack Carlson may know his fashion, but he’s also equal parts academic and athlete. As a Clarendon Scholar, he received his doctorate in archeology from Brasenose College, Oxford. As an undergraduate, he received his degree in Classics and Chinese Studies at the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown. He’s also a World Championships (bronze), Head of the Charles champion, and Henley Royal Regatta Champion.As a former coxswain, Carlson learned the importance of working with a team.
He’s the author of two coffee-table books: Rowing Blazers, in which he shows off some of his best creations, and A Humorous Guide to Heraldry, in which he dusts off some of the drier texts and updates them for modern audiences. His analysis and interpretation of symbology is highly respected across a number of sectors. Jack Carlson’s writing has made it into an array of publications, including the New England Classical Journal,Foreign Policy, and GQ. He’s also worked with a wide range of brands, including Ralph Lauren and the NBA.
In addition to a number of prestigious organizations where he’s a fellow, including the Royal Asiatic Society, the Explorers Club, and the Royal Numismatic Society, Jack Carlson sits on the board of the charity Row New York. This program makes it possible for people from all backgrounds to try their hand at crew and learn more about what it takes to work as one in the water.
