A business student at Marquette University, John Underwood is also a varsity athlete who plays on the school’s lacrosse team. Beyond his academic and athletic pursuits, John Underwood spends time engaging in a variety of philanthropic efforts.
Along with the rest of his Marquette University lacrosse teammates, he recently grew his mustache as part of the Lax Stache Madness initiative to raise funds to support the HEADstrong Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by cancer. Mr. Underwood’s initial personal goal of raising $1,800 was doubled over the course of fundraising, while the combined efforts of the Marquette University men’s lacrosse team surpassed $17,600, far exceeding the group's fundraising target of $10,000.
The Marquette team became involved in the HEADstrong fundraiser through Lax Stache Madness, an annual fundraising competition between college lacrosse teams established in 2008. Since that time, the fundraiser has raised approximately $1.25 million, including nearly $250,000 in 2019.
