A member of the American Camping Association and a licensed psychologist in New Jersey, Herb Tannenbaum, Ph.D., operates a successful private practice while also directing Harbor Hills Day Camp. As its’ owner, he has supplied the leadership for the premiere summer day camp for children and teens since 2002. Dr. Herb Tannenbaum has held an interest in the educational value of day camps for children for many years. In 1972, he assisted with a New York University evaluation of the vacation day camp reading program of the City of New York’s District 22 Board of Education. In addition to his day camp operations, Dr. Tannenbaum is founder of the Center for Effective Living in River Edge, New Jersey, where he continues to serve as the mental health delivery center’s Executive Director.

A graduate of New Jersey’s Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he completed a BA in Psychology and Education, Dr. Herbert Tannenbaum matriculated to New York University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology before graduating with his doctorate. He furthered his education through a fellowship with the American Institute of Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. In 1990, he attended the Institute for Relationship Therapy and gained certification as an Imago Therapist, Certified Workshop Presenter, and Clinical Instructor. He has also served on the faculty of the Institute. He offers clinicians basic clinical training in the Imago theory, as well as leading advanced supervision groups for therapists certified in Imago Relationship Therapy. For more than two decades, Dr. Herb Tannenbaum has presented “Getting the Love You Want” workshops for couples. In his private practice, he provides psychotherapy for individuals of all ages.

A consulting psychologist, Dr. Herb Tannenbaum has assisted with several media advertising campaigns, including the Partnership for a Drug-Free America’s “Just Say No” campaign. In addition, he wrote a weekly column on mental health in River Edge’s Town News and published dozens of articles and book reviews. Dr. Herbert Tannenbaum holds membership in several professional organizations, including the National Accreditation Association of Psychoanalysis, the Association of Imago Relationship Therapy, and the Council for the National Register of Health Services Providers in Psychology, the American Academy of Psychotherapists and the Association for Imago Relationship Therapy.
