A musician and educator, Ellen Bowen serves Grosse Pointe Community Theatre in Michigan as a music director. In this role, Ellen Bowen has won Clarence Awards for excellence in musical direction for her work on such productions as Hello, Dolly! and The Producers.

Her professional experience also includes more than 25 years as Grosse Pointe South High School’s director of choir activities and musical theater. During that time, Ellen Bowen nurtured the school’s choral music program into one of the nation’s most impressive. Her efforts resulted in several National Show Choir titles as well as dozens of student performances in tandem with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Before becoming choir director at Grosse Pointe South High School, Bowen developed a choral music program at Macomb Community College in Clinton Township, Michigan, where she worked as professor of music and humanities. Under her guidance, the program went from supporting no students at all to supporting hundreds of students studying subjects like vocal jazz, musical theater, and voice.
