Dr. Scott B. Berger, MD, PhD, is a quality assurance radiologist and medical consultant based in Stamford, Connecticut, where he reviews radiological cases for diagnostic accuracy and provides expert witness testimony. He earned his MD and PhD through a joint program at Cornell University Medical College, Rockefeller University, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (1983-1992), conducting doctoral research on brain structures controlling blood pressure under Dr. Donald Reis. His education began at Emory University with degrees in neurobiology and computer science, followed by research at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and residency and fellowship training at Yale University.
During his clinical career, Dr. Berger served as Vice Chairman of Radiology at Danbury Hospital and practiced with CareMount Medical until 2020, earning recognition as a "Top Doctor" from New York Magazine and inclusion in the "Best Doctors in America" database. He distinguished himself by meeting directly with patients to explain imaging results, receiving special recognition from the New York Police Department for his care of officers. His early computing experience, beginning with programming in 1975 and work at Westinghouse's supercomputer division, informs his current perspective on artificial intelligence in radiology. He maintains that while AI excels at detecting specific abnormalities, comprehensive diagnostic interpretation still requires human expertise.
Beyond clinical work, Dr. Berger is establishing a scholarship fund for medical students and mentors young radiologists. He participated in a 2024 humanitarian mission to Israel during the ongoing conflict, meeting with officials and witnessing the impact firsthand, including visiting Majdal Shams where twelve children died in a missile strike. A trained cantor who studied under Holocaust survivor Moshe Taube, he served a small Pennsylvania congregation for nearly a decade and continues performing for senior communities. He and his wife Amy support Neighbors Link, which assists immigrant families, while he maintains board certification with subspecialty qualification in neuroradiology.
