Before establishing himself as a triple board-certified MD, Dr. Gregory Sampognaro graduated with a bachelor of science from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He followed his undergraduate studies by pursuing an MD at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Gregory Sampognaro distinguished himself as a high-achieving student, gaining admittance to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and earning the Hull-Akenhead Cardiology Award.
After he received his medical degree, Dr. Sampognaro fulfilled the obligations of an internship and an internal medicine residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He subsequently returned to Louisiana for a cardiovascular disease fellowship at the Alton Oschner Medical Foundation. In his first year, he garnered the Junior Fellow Award. He concluded his postgraduate training with an international cardiology fellowship, which he undertook at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University.
Soon afterward, Dr. Sampognaro moved back to Monroe, where he spent the next 14 years treating patients at his private practice. Today, he provides cardiology care through Affinity Health Group and serves on two committees at Physicians and Surgeons Hospital in Monroe.
