A longtime California resident who has lived and worked in San Diego for decades, Douglas Austin secured his Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo in the early 1970s. Douglas Austin went on to serve as a self-employed architect before partnering with a colleague to establish the firm of Austin Hansen in 1977. Under Mr. Austin’s guidance as chairman and CEO, this firm grew to take on different architect partners, ultimately becoming AVRP Skyport in 2016. It completes large architectural projects encompassing the design of multifamily housing, custom homes, office buildings, healthcare facilities, schools, places of worship, and mixed-use properties. Over the years, Mr. Austin has also accomplished a great deal in the field of city planning, working as a planning commissioner and vice chairing the Center City Development Corporation. He has also remained active with his Cal Poly alma mater, serving as director of its Foundation Advisory Council and a member of both its Foundation Board and President’s Advisory Council.
