David Colin Burke

Possessing a background in private equity investments that spans over two decades, David Colin Burke is the founder of Makena Capital Management, LLC, where he formerly served as the CEO. Over the course of more than 10 years, he helped to build a firm that possesses more than 400 clients and maintains over $20 billion in assets under management. David Colin Burke also previously served on the board of Makena, which spans offices in Menlo Park, California; London; and New York.

Prior to founding Makena Capital, he spent two years as the managing director of the Stanford Management Company, where he focused on guiding Stanford University endowment investments. In the early 2000s, Mr. Burke was the managing director of the Investment Fund for Foundations, where he oversaw its portfolio and funds spanning a range of venture capital and private equity positions.

Mr. Burke earned his undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Virginia (UVA) and also completed a master’s degree in international relations at the institution. With a focus on international politics, he wrote his thesis on the topic “The Dissolution of Yugoslavia.”

After completing a law degree at UVA, Mr. Burke served as articles editor for the Virginia Journal of International Law. His background as an attorney includes associate roles at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown, and Enersen in San Francisco and at Linklaters in London and Paris, where he concentrated on international capital markets law.
