A graduate of Elmhurst College and the University of Illinois (U of I) at Chicago, Cathy Earnest holds both a bachelor of arts in music and a master of arts in English. While she was working toward her MA from U of I, The North American Review published a story from her thesis entitled "My Protagonist in Vienna.” Over the course of her career, Cathy Earnest has produced multiple plays that warranted showcase readings with Chicago Dramatists. She also served as senior network playwright of the same organization from 2012 to 2013.
Ms. Earnest has also served residencies with both the Byrdcliffe Art Colony in Woodstock, New York, and the Millay Colony for the Arts in Austerlitz, New York. She also received a 2-year grant for fiction through the Illinois Arts Council and a 2-year scholarship to the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference in Ripton, Vermont. In 2016, she joined Brant Russell and Lisa Timmel at the CCM Playwrights’ Conference at the University of Cincinnati.
