Bianca Catherine Knight

Blind Attorney

Nashville United States (Tennessee)
Employed Available
Since losing her sight due to a genetic condition known as Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), Bianca Catherine Knight has gone on to become an advocate for disability rights. She received her diagnosis at the age of 28, after establishing herself as a diversely skilled office administrator. Having earlier received a bachelor of science in broadcast communications from the University of Tennessee, Bianca Catherine Knight subsequently served as a legal clerk in the private practice of a Knoxville attorney and later as the administrative director of the Nashville medical placement firm Medplacer.

Ms. Knight left the workplace after learning of her condition, so that she could focus on navigating the world with her remaining senses. She became adept at the use of talking technology and, on the advice of her technology instructor, decided to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a lawyer. She matriculated at Belmont University College of Law in 2011 and distinguished herself as the recipient of several scholarships, including the American Council of the Blind's Floyd Qualls Memorial Scholarship and the Council of Citizens with Low Vision's Fred Scheigert Scholarship.

Honored for her scholarly accomplishments, Bianca Catherine Knight accepted the Belmont University Bruin Scholarship for Academic Performance in 2013. She graduated as a five-time Dean's List honoree and recipient of five Most Outstanding Student awards for success in her coursework. Now a disability rights attorney, she represents clients in a variety of settings and advocates for legislation that meets the needs of individuals with disabilities.
