An experienced swimming professional, Thor Larson has achieved success in multiple areas of the sport. The captain of the Creighton University swim team while studying there as an undergraduate, he went on to hold the same role at Fordham University. On his way to completing a bachelor’s degree in finance at Fordham, Thor Larson garnered recognition as Patriot League Athlete of the Week. He also performed well as a student, earning placement on both the dean’s list and the Patriot League All-Academic Team.
After college, Thor Larson transitioned to coaching, serving first as co-head coach of the Kansas City Blazers Swim Team and then as president and head coach of Tsunami Enterprises, LLC, a USA Swimming club in Blue Springs, Missouri. In 2007, Mr. Larson relocated to Grand Island, Nebraska, to become CEO and executive director of the local YMCA, a multimillion-dollar-budgeted chapter that he successfully led for the next seven years.
A former math teacher who holds a master’s in teaching from the College of Saint Mary, Thor Larson returned to coaching in 2014 when he accepted responsibilities as head coach and general manager of the swim team at iNspire Action Sports, LLC. In his four-plus years of leading the Nebraska-based USA Swimming club, he has attracted dozens of new team members and consistently improved the squad’s results in competitions.
