The former chief legal counsel for the Massachusetts Port Authority, responsible for the insurance, legal, and bargaining activities of the independent public authority that operates Logan International Airport, Scott Kafker now serves as chief justice of the Massachusetts Court of Appeals. Initially appointed to the court in 2001, Scott Kafker has written approximately 1,000 opinions hosted on numerous law websites, such as Westlaw and LexisNexus. Further, many of these legal opinions have been cited in other courtrooms, including in federal district and circuit courts of appeals and state supreme courts.

Beyond his work as a judge, Scott Kafker has developed a reputation as a legal scholar, and he regularly writes about state constitutional law. Between 2009 and 2015, he taught a course on state constitutional law at Boston College Law School, guiding students through the text and structures of various state constitutions and examining the history behind them.
