The executive director of the Parent Coalition for Excellent Education (PC2E), Muhammed Akil spearheads the organization’s mission to empower and mobilize parents and other advocates to improve education policies in the state of New Jersey. The PC2E also educates the general public through a range of informative videos and factoids on the organization’s official website. Muhammed Akil’s responsibilities with the PC2E encompass all aspects of organizational operations, fundraising, and strategic development.
Before joining the PC2E in 2015, Muhammed Akil served 12 years with the City of Jersey City. After serving administrative roles with multiple Jersey City departments and divisions, he ultimately became chief of staff for mayor Steven Fulop.
Outside of the professional arena, Mr. Akil enjoys gardening and long-distance running. Among other achievements, he completed the Comrades Marathon, an 89-kilometer footrace in South Africa. In an effort to give back to the community at large, he founded More Than a Race, an organization that supports educational and outdoor programs for inner-city youth.
