Chief Miguel Iglesias, a retired NYPD Chief, dedicated over 30 years to serving New York City with integrity, leadership, and a deep commitment to public service. Born in Panama City, Panama, he joined the NYPD in 1991, driven by a strong desire to make a difference in his community. Throughout his career, he rose through the ranks, holding various key positions, including Chief of Internal Affairs, where his leadership played a critical role in fostering transparency and accountability within the department.
Miguel’s promotion to Sergeant in 2001 marked a turning point in his career, prompting him to pursue further education. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management from St. Joseph's College in 2005 and a Master’s in Human Resources Management from Seton Hall University in 2008. These academic achievements helped him develop the skills needed to take on more significant leadership roles, combining practical law enforcement experience with a solid foundation in management and human resources.
Raised in Brooklyn, Miguel was acutely aware of the challenges of crime and safety, which motivated him to join the NYPD. By 2005, he had been promoted to Lieutenant, managing precinct operations and ensuring officers adhered to departmental policies. In 2010, he was promoted to Captain, where he directly reduced crime, particularly shootings, in the 73rd Precinct, an area known for its challenges.
