An investment executive and economic analyst with nearly 30 years of experience, Jhongsup (Joseph or Joe) Chai, now in his 56th year, serves Toscafund Asset Management of London as an analyst. The position requires that he assist the $4-billion firm with investment decisions related to the property sector. To train for his finance career, Joe Chai attended Yale University. An honors graduate, he earned a bachelor of arts in economics.
Degree in hand, Mr. Chai moved to London, where he pursued a research fellowship at the Bank of England. While there, he wrote a paper regarding Black Wednesday, a 1992 event in which the British pound collapsed. The paper explored the causes of the event and discussed the prevention of such events.
After leaving the Bank of England, Mr. Chai began graduate studies at Yale, ultimately earning a doctorate in economics. During this period, he also worked as an associate for Goldman Sachs in the Mergers and Acquisitions Group.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Chai and his wife, married 25 years, have raised three sons.
