Dr. Todd Young, a 54-year-old physician from Springdale, Newfoundland, has made lasting contributions to healthcare, especially in rural communities. As the founder and Medical Director of Main Street Medical Clinic and CEO of MEDICURO Virtual Health Inc., he has combined traditional healthcare with innovative telemedicine solutions to improve access to medical services across Newfoundland and Labrador.
Dr. Young’s interest in healthcare began early in life. After high school, he earned a Diploma in Nursing from the Western Memorial Regional Hospital School of Nursing in 2001. His work as an outpost nurse in northern Ontario’s Indigenous communities exposed him to the difficulties of providing healthcare in remote areas, motivating him to further his education. He attended McMaster University, earning his medical degree in 2004 and completing his residency in rural family medicine.
Dr. Young has held leadership roles throughout his career, including as the physician lead at Green Bay Health Center in Springdale and Medical Director at Valley Vista Seniors Home. In 2016, he founded Main Street Medical Clinic, which integrated telemedicine with traditional healthcare. This model allowed patients, especially those in rural areas, to access healthcare remotely, reducing the need for travel and improving access to specialists.
In addition to the clinic, Dr. Young founded MEDICURO Virtual Health Inc., which offers virtual consultations, prescriptions, and health advice across Newfoundland and Labrador. Through MEDICURO, patients can receive care from home, helping those in isolated communities with limited healthcare resources.
Dr. Young is also a leader in addiction care. In 2017, he launched Newfoundland and Labrador’s first rapid access addictions program, providing immediate support for individuals struggling with substance use. The program’s satellite offices across the province ensure individuals have timely treatment access.
Dr. Young is committed to education and community service outside his clinical work. He has mentored students at Memorial University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and has supported local youth sports and charitable organizations like Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Dr. Todd Kevin Young’s work has profoundly impacted healthcare in Newfoundland and Labrador, improving access and quality of care for individuals in rural and underserved regions.
