Charles Douyon

Charles Douyon is a seasoned legal and compliance professional with over 12 years of experience in financial regulations. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he developed a strong foundation in teamwork and discipline through his love of sports. His family later moved to Long Island during high school, where his passion for basketball and football continued to grow. These early experiences in sports shaped his approach to professional and personal challenges.

After high school, Charles enrolled at Northeastern University in Boston. Still, he decided to transfer to Berkeley College in New York following the events of September 11, 2001, to be closer to his family. At Berkeley, he majored in Business Management and Finance, graduating magna cum laude in 2005. This achievement marked the beginning of his business career but was also the foundation for a later transition into law.

Charles began his career in finance, landing a position at a financial institution on Wall Street. The dynamic, fast-paced environment exposed him to various economic concepts, from investment strategies to market analysis. However, after several years, he realized his true interests were shifting toward the legal aspects of the financial world. This realization led him to make a significant career change in 2007.

He enrolled at Northwestern University School of Law, where he focused on legal studies with an eye on the financial sector. The transition from finance to law was challenging but rewarding, and Charles’s business management background gave him a unique perspective on the complexities of economic law. He graduated in 2010, entering the legal profession at a pivotal moment, just as the financial industry underwent significant regulatory reforms following the Global Financial Crisis.

To further enhance his legal expertise, Charles pursued an LLM (Master of Laws) at Fordham University Law School, specializing in Corporate, Banking, and Finance Law. The advanced studies allowed him to deepen his understanding of financial regulations. He also gained hands-on experience through internships with key regulatory agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). These experiences helped him gain a comprehensive understanding of regulatory compliance and enforcement.

Charles has worked in various legal and compliance roles, advising financial institutions and investment firms on the complex web of financial regulations. His deep knowledge of critical rules, including the Dodd-Frank Act and the Securities Exchange Act, has made him an invaluable advisor for firms striving to remain compliant and mitigate risk.

Charles has also held leadership roles, including Director of Compliance at a prominent investment firm. In this position, he oversaw the firm’s compliance program, ensuring all activities adhered to industry regulations and legal requirements. His leadership helped the firm maintain its strong reputation and avoid legal and financial pitfalls.
