A chief petty officer with the United States Coast Guard, Brett Tremelling joined the branch of the armed forces in 1997 as a reservist before assuming full active duty in September 2001. Since that time, Brett Tremelling has completed courses in a number of areas, including weapons of mass destruction, maritime enforcement, and navigation rules. In 2004, Brett Tremelling was deployed to Iraq and Kuwait with Coast Guard Port Security Unity 307 to assist with Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). As part of this operation, he served over 1,500 hours as a sentry at an entry-control point, where he assisted in the inspection of more than 16,000 vehicles.
Brett Tremelling received a letter of commendation from the commandant of the Coast Guard for his OIF service and has since received numerous distinctions, including the Army Achievement Medal and Coast Guard Commendation Medal, both of which he earned while stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. He was twice named Reservist of the Year and currently maintains responsibilities as a law enforcement instructor at the Northeast Regional Fisheries Training Center in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts.
Prior to joining the Coast Guard, Brett Tremelling served 10 years as a police officer with the Chatham County Police Department in Savannah, Georgia. Working for various divisions, he earned a Medal of Valor and Combat Cross for his judgment and reaction in a pair of high-stakes situations.
