Passionate about furthering the quality of care worldwide, he has guided the Fundación Oftalmológica De La Peña since the mid-1990s and overseen efforts that ensured physicians throughout Latin America have access to proper equipment and leading edge cataract surgery training. This led to the founding of the Latin American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Active with the University of California (UC) Board of Regents, Dr. De La Peña was recently appointed as a UC Advisory Governor for the Department of Energy-operated Los Alamos National Security, LLC, and Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC.
