Managing My DoYouBuzz Account

I haven’t received a confirmation email. What should I do?

There are several possible solutions.

  • The confirmation email might have been filtered by your spam blocker. Please check your spam folder.

  • You might have incorrectly entered your email address. Try signing up again at http://www.doyoubuzz.com/{$locale}/user/add/. The sign up form will tell you if your email has already been registered. If it’s not in the system, you can continue signing up with your correct email address.

  • Some companies filter automatic emails. Try using your personal email address.

  • We are unable to manually confirm emails returned by anti-spam services. Please use a different email address for your DoYouBuzz account.

I lost my password. What should I do?

You can reset your password at http://www.doyoubuzz.com/{$locale}/user/forgot_pwd/. A new password will be sent to you by email. You can change your password at any time from "My Account" (link).

How do I change my email address?

You can update your email address from "My Account". A confirmation email will be sent to your new email address. You must confirm your new email address by clicking on the link in the confirmation email. Until you do so, we will continue using your previous email address.

Why is there a number at the end of my resume’s URL?

Someone with the same name as you has already signed up.

Can I change my URL?

Standard Service: Normally, it is not possible to modify your resume’s URL. However, if you made a mistake typing your name when you signed up, or if you have since changed your name, please contact us with your request using the contact form on http://www.doyoubuzz.com/{$locale}/content/contact/. Include your current URL and your preferred URL. DoYouBuzz URLs are always structured in a firstname-lastname format (http://www.doyoubuzz.com/firstname-lastname). If your preferred address is available, we will be happy to change it for you. Remember, changing your URL means that you will lose your current ranking in search engines.

Premium Service: You can change your URL by renewing your Premium account. Please note, you cannot accumulate subscription periods. The remaining period of your current subscription will be lost. The best option is to wait until the end of your current subscription to change URLs.

How do I unsubscribe from the newsletter?

Go to "My Account" and uncheck the box "Receive DoYouBuzz Tips, News and Resources".

How do I delete my account?

Are you sure? Deleting your account is irreversible. You will not be able to recover your resume.

If you no longer want your resume to be visible to others, we suggest that you simply "unpublish" it. Only you can access your resume when it is unpublished. Even if someone knows your URL, they will not be able to view your resume. To unpublish, click on the button "Resume Published" in the upper right-hand corner of your resume. It will then read "Resume Unpublished".

If you really do want to permanently delete your account, go to "My Account" and click on "Delete my account".

Managing My Presence on the Web

Most Web traffic passes through search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.). Search engines scan the Web to index Web sites for inclusion in search results. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to tools and strategies for improving a Web site’s rank in search engine results. DoYouBuzz was built to optimize the presence of your resume Web site in search engine results because most people pay close attention to the top results.

I just created my resume, but it doesn’t show up when I search for my name on the Web. Why?

Your presence in search engine results is not immediate. In general, it takes two to four weeks to be well positioned in a keyword search for your name. Search engines send out "robots" that look for new sites to index in their results. While DoYouBuzz was built to optimize your presence in search engine results, we do not control the time required for a search engine to index your resume.

I created my resume more than a month ago, but it still doesn’t show up in search engine results. What can I do?

Your presence in search engine results is not immediate. In general, it takes two to four weeks to be well positioned in a keyword search for your name. Search engines send out ‘robots’ that look for new sites to index in their results. While DoYouBuzz was built to optimize your presence in search engine results, we do not control the time required for a search engine to index your resume.

Ensure that your privacy settings are configured for search engine indexing

To control your privacy settings, go to your resume, click on "Configuration", then click on "Privacy Settings". To be visible to search engines, select:

  • "Yes" next to the option "Publish my resume",
  • "No" next to the option "Protect my resume with a password" and
  • "Yes" next to the option "Allow search engines to include my resume in results"

Have you unpublished your resume recently?

Search engines scan the Web for additions, modifications and deletions. When you unpublish your resume, it is no longer visible to search engines. If a search engine happens to scan your resume Web site while your site is unpublished, it considers that your site no longer exists. Don’t panic. Just republish your resume. Within the next few weeks, it will be back in search engine results.

Tip: Allows leave your resume in the published mode — even when you are editing your Web site. If a search engine happens to scan over your resume Web site while it is unpublished, the search engine will exclude it from search results and you will lose your ranking.

Is an access code required to view your resume?

Resumes protected with access codes are not visible to search engines. From your resume, click on the "Configuration" tab and select "No" next to the option "Protect my resume with an access code".

I edited my resume but my changes aren’t showing up in search engine results. Why and what should I do?

Search engines results display information stored in an index that is updated regularly. Search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) directly manage their own indexing processes. DoYouBuzz cannot intervene. When you change information that is presented in search engine results, such as the title and description of your resume, it may take up to a few weeks for the new information to be displayed in search results for your name. Please be patient.

I want to remove my resume from Google search results. How do I do that?

Disappear from Google without disappearing from DoYouBuzz

If you want your resume to be available only to people that know the URL:

- Go to Settings, then Privacy and select "No" next to "Allow search engines to include my resume in results".

Make your resume totally invisible

If you want your resume to be unavailable to everyone, you have two choices:

- Unpublish your resume. Click on the green button "Published" to change it to "Unpublished". You are now the only one who can access your resume. If you want to share your resume again later, simply click "Unpublished" to change it back to "Published".

- Delete your resume. All of your information will be deleted. Please note that deleting your account is irreversible. We will not be able to restore your resume or information. To delete your account, go to "My Account" http://www.doyoubuzz.com/us/user/edit/ and click "Delete my account".

I deleted my account, but my resume still shows up in Google results. What can I do?

It can take anywhere from two to six weeks for search engines to notice that your resume is no longer published.

Google lets you reduce this period down to a few days. To request the removal of your resume website, go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/removals. If you don't already have one, you will need to create a free Gmail account.

Click "New removal request", paste the URL of the page you want removed from search engine results, then click "Continue".

On the next page, "Webmaster has already blocked the page" will be selected. Leave it selected and check the option "The page returns a 404/410 or has been blocked by robots.txt or a noindex meta tag".

Click "Submit Request".

Your request will be processed within 72 hours. To check the status of your request, visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/removals.

Why is the cached link missing from my resume in Google’s results?

DoYouBuzz resumes are tagged no cache. We did this so that potential employers and other visitors to your resume will not be able to access previous versions of your resume.

Import from LinkedIn/Viadeo

How do I import my LinkedIn or Viadeo profile?

You can automatically fill in your DoYouBuzz resume with your LinkedIn or Viadeo profile information. At any point, click on "Add Content", then "Import" and follow the instructions on the screen. Importing your profile information will not erase the information you may have already added to your DoYouBuzz resume.

I can’t import my Viadeo profile.

Check that you have correctly entered the link to your public profile on Viadeo.

Setting Up Your Email Signature (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Outlook)

DoYouBuzz recommends adding a custom email signature to the end of your emails with a link to your online resume. It’s a subtle and effective way to increase your professional visibility and build relationships with your contacts.

  • 1.Get the HTML code for your signature
First, you’ll need to get the automatically generated signature from you DoYouBuzz account. From your resume, go to Export > Email Signature.
    - If you use Outlook 2003 / 2007 or Thunderbird, copy the code displayed.
    - If you use a different service, simply click “Copy HTML”.

  • 2.Configure your email settings
Set up your email account to display a signature at the end of your emails.

    Gmail
    - Click on “Setting” (at the top, on the right)
    - Scroll down to “Signature”
    - Paste the code you copied from your DoYouBuzz resume in the field
    - Click “Save” at the bottom of the page

    Yahoo! Mail
    - Click “Options” (at the top, on the right), then “Other options”
    - In the window that opens, click “Signature”
    - Click “Rich Text”
    - Paste the code copied from your DoYouBuzz resume in the field
    - Click “Confirm”

Hotmail! / Live Messenger (not supported)
Live Messenger restricts the length of signatures. If you use this email application, you will not be able to add the DoYouBuzz signature to your emails (unless you want to copy and paste it at the end of every email).

Confidentiality and Intellectual Property

How do I control access to my resume and my personal information?

DoYouBuzz gives you total control over your privacy settings and access to your resume. There are four options with varying degrees of privacy and visibility.

  • Published Resume, Public Search Listing: Anyone who knows your resume’s URL is able to access your resume. Your resume will also be submitted for public search indexing. This means that your resume may appear in search results for keywords such as your first and last name.
  • Published Resume, No Public Search Listing: Anyone who knows your resume’s URL is able to access your resume. However, your resume will not be made available to search engines.
  • Published Resume, Access Code Required: Your resume will not appear in search engine results. To access your resume, visitors will need to know the URL and an access code determined by you. If someone wants to access your resume, they will need to fill out a contact form. We will forward their message to your email address on their behalf. If you choose to allow them access, you will need to send them your code. Remember this is not your DoYouBuzz password.
  • Unpublished Resume: Only you can access your resume by logging into your DoYouBuzz account.

Control your privacy settings from your account by clicking on "Settings" then "Privacy".

Please note, you are only required to provide your first and last name. You may choose to include your contact information and/or photo. If you do not wish to post your telephone number or email address, DoYouBuzz allows you to create a contact form so that potential employers and recruiters can send you a message directly from your resume. DoYouBuzz will forward their message and contact information to your email address.

Do you have advice on protecting personal information?

DoYouBuzz gives you total control over your privacy settings and access to your resume. Check out the question ‘Can I control access to my resume and my personal information?’ which lays out all the options. Beyond controlling your privacy settings, DoYouBuzz has some general, common sense advice about sharing personal information.

  • Do not post your social security number, passport number or identification card (Driver’s License, State ID, etc.). Avoid including documents that contain this type of personal information in your portfolio. If an employer, recruiter or temporary work agency requests this type of information, we recommend that you give it to them directly.
  • If you’d like to include a letter of recommendation in your portfolio, be sure to get permission from your reference. As a rule of thumb, you should remove their contact information (address, telephone number, email address).
  • When you publish documents in your portfolio make sure you have all necessary copyright permissions. If you want to include documents produced for your employer or previous employers, you must first get permission from the appropriate person in the company.

Remember, you are responsible for all content published on your resume. Be sure to respect applicable copyright and intellectual property laws.

What is your policy concerning personal information?

DoYouBuzz takes privacy matters seriously and handles your personal information accordingly. We will not give your email address to third parties. For a more detailed explanation, please read our Privacy Policy.

My Premium subscription has expired. Can you transfer my domain name ownership to me?

Once your subscription expires, your domain name is deactivated. That means we no longer manage it for you and we no longer own it.

However, your domain name will not be available immediately. Domain name registration and ownership are governed by special institutions and we can not intervene after your Premium account expires.

Once expired, most domain names are subject to a "quarantine period". During this time, no one is able to purchase the domain name.

To find out when you can attempt to purchase your domain, please consult the chart below.

Type of Domain Name Domain Reserved
- Premium renewal is allowed
- Purchase is not allowed

We can transfer ownership of your domain name to you during your Premium subscription. However, there are certain periods when transfers are not possible.

- During the first two months of your Premium subscription. This restriction is imposed by the institutions that manage domain names.

- During the last month of your Premium subscription. We need at least 30 days to transfer your domain name to you before it expires.

Please note, we charge a $15 fee to transfer ownership of a domain name.

To transfer ownership of your domain name, please contact us at help@doyoubuzz.com.

I can't renew my Premium account. Why?

If you renew your account after it expires, you may no longer be able to renew the domain name you used previously. When your Premium account expires, we no longer own your domain name. The insitutions that manage domain names often block all purchases of a domain name for a certain period of time after they expire.

Type of Domain Name Domain Reserved
- Premium renewal is allowed

I’m using the Premium Service but my resume URL is still www.doyoubuzz.com/firstname-lastname. Why?

There are several possible reasons:

- You signed up for DoYouBuzz Premium, but you have not yet chosen a domain name. You can set up your domain name at any time by visiting www.doyoubuzz.com/us/order.

- There is a short waiting period after a domain name is purchased, before it is activated.

- If neither of these reasons apply to you, everything is probably working just fine! Your resume is available to visitors at www.yourname.com and you can also access it there. However, you will continue to access your dashboard and edit your resume from www.doyoubuzz.com/yourname. You are the only one that can access this page now. Any visitors to www.doyoubuzz.com/yournmame will be automatically redirected to www.yourname.com.

I just signed up for DoYouBuzz Premium. How long will it take to activate my domain name?

When you purchase a Premium account with a domain name, be aware that there is a short waiting period before your domain name will be available:

      - 3 hours: .com, .net, .org, .info and .be
      - 12 hours: .fr

You will receive an email confirmation when your domain name is set up.
Please note that your domain name may not be immediately available everywhere on the Internet. When a domain name is registered, it must be updated in a number of places. In other words, it can take a few hours for all Internet Service Provides to update their records. Think of it like phone books automatically updating themselves, but each phone book does it at different times. We provide a general indication of the expected waiting period here, but sometimes it can take a bit longer. If your resume is not available on your domain name after 24 hours, please let us know help@doyoubuzz.com.

How does HR-XML work?

DoYouBuzz allows you to export your resume in HR-XML format. To use this feature, go to your resume, click the Export tab, then click HR-XML. Simply copy the URL for your HR-XML resume.

What is HR-XML? What does it do?

HR-XML is a standard format for data that lets human resources applications communicate with one another. When you enter information into your DoYouBuzz resume, the data is rewritten in a universal language that all can be understood by all other compatible applications. For example, if you want to apply for a job in a company that uses an HR-XML compatible tool, all you need to do is paste the URL for your HR-XML feed into their website. Your resume will automatically be filled in on their website. No need to fill it in for the umpteenth time. Cool, huh?

How can I use my HR-XML resume?

Not all applications are compatible today, but more and more companies and services are starting to transition to HR-XML norms. We wanted to give professionals on DoYouBuzz the best technology available, so we made it easy to export your resume. If you want to apply for a job on a website that is compatible with HR-XML, simply paste the URL of your resume feed in the appropriate field on their site.

What about the confidentiality of my information?

When you share your HR-XML feed, you are sharing your name, your email address and the information contained in your resume. Only share your HR-XML feed with websites you trust.
If you share the URL of your HR-XML feed with a website, they will also have access to any updates you make to your resume. To block access to your updates, you generate a new URL—the old one will not longer be accessible. However, your information will still be on the other site. To remove your resume information from an external website, you will need to delete your account on the other website.

What does the future hold for HR-XML?

Today, DoYouBuzz only enables you to export your resume by copying and pasting your HR-XML feed. This is just the first step towards a simpler, more intuitive and more powerful system.
In the near future, you will be able to apply with your resume widely with the click of a button. You won’t need to bother with HR-XML and all that jazz! You’ll also know how many applications have access to your information. Even better, you’ll be able to revoke an application’s access—at any time—to your resume.
So, as you can see, the HR-XML integration on DoYouBuzz is a stepping stone to a really flexible and complete system that will make life easier for all!

What can I learn from my resume statistics?

The statistics on DoYouBuzz allow you to mesaure the activity on your resume in different ways. This information can be very useful for measuring your visibility and understanding how your resume is perceived by your visitors. If you're looking for a job and you send your resume to several companies, you will quickly see if your applications are grabbing attention!
Please note that the statistics displayed exclude your own activity on your resume.

Pageviews

The number of pageviews can be consulted for all accounts (free and Premium). Pageviews indicate the number of pages on your resume that have been viewed by visitors. A single visitor that views your home page, then your Professional Experiences page and finally one of your jobs has viewed a total of three pages. For now, we do not separate your main resume from your secondary resumes. All visits and views are taken into account. For technical reasons, we can not measure the number of visitors or the number of unique visitors. However, you can access this information through the Advanced Statistics option by upgrading to DoYouBuzz Premium.

Downloads

The download statistics show you the date, time and number of times a visitor downloads the printable version of your resume (this feature works for both the automatically generated resume or your own file if you choose to upload your own printable resume). For now, we do not separate your main resume from your secondary resumes. All downloads (expect when you download your own resume) are taken into account. This feature is only available to DoYouBuzz Premium members.

Advanced Statistics

If you want to get to the heart of your statistics, you can link your DoYouBuzz resume to a Google Analytics account. By activating Google Analytics for your resume, you will be able to precisely study the behavior of visitors on your resume. To learn more about Advanced Statistics, please read our help article on Google Analytics for DoYouBuzz. This option is only available to DoYouBuzz Premium members.
