Chief Technical Officer

StayAt Hotel Apartments AB(August 2006 - October 2008)

  • My assignment for Europe’s #2 hotel chain in the extended stay business was to make the IT-dept. more efficient and to architect viable, future safe systems and policies in order for the company to be able to outsource the IT-function later on. In order to achieve my goals I had to change everything from suppliers, partners to the entire IT-infrastructure. I had over 2000 analogue phone extensions that needed to be converted to IP telephony, in three countries working against a central server. I worked with a company based out of Istanbul, Turkey that had a solution for hotel IP-telephony that allowed us to do magic with the built in color touch-screen in each phone. I also needed to completely re-architect the data center hardware for our Oracle-based booking system (Opera). We went from just two to ten servers working in parallel in order to be able to cope with future demand.
I invented a self-check-in system that made it possible to decrease staffing by at least two employees per hotel. I also made it possible for all IT systems to be remotely controlled from a central location thus reducing the need for more IT staff and costly service trips.
I constructed their new intranet based on MOSS 2007 and I also developed a new web site. I often had the role of Project manager in their initiative to expand with up to 10 new hotels within a three year period. I was directly involved with defining the IT architecture for three new hotels.
I was very early with moving out storage and backup into the Cloud, which got noticed by Computer Sweden, where I was featured in a two-page article. During the autumn of 2008 I also moved out Customer Relationship Management into the Cloud. I tried to consolidate as many servers as possible into virtual environments. First using VMWare and later on with Hyper-V on Server 2008.
I finally outsourced the entire IT function to Relacom AB. I was responsible for negotiations and finally contracting the sourcing partner.
