Preston Smith is a former Georgia state senator and an attorney with almost two decades of legal experience working in the healthcare industry. When elected to the state senate in 2003, Preston Smith became the youngest Georgia senator and, over four consecutive terms, served as the governor’s floor leader, chairman of the judiciary committee, and a member of a number of other influential committees. He successfully passed numerous patient-centered reforms to reduce costs and improve affordable access to quality healthcare. Currently, he works in Atlanta, Georgia as president of Tyler & Company, one of the nation's leading recruitment firms which identify and place the best candidates for executive positions in the healthcare industry and academic institutions.

An alumnus of Baylor University and the University of Georgia School of Law, Smith holds a BBA and a JD. Prior to his position at Tyler & Company, he served as chief revenue officer and chief compliance officer at ApolloMD. There he was responsible for helping to manage operations for the $500 million national healthcare services firm, overseeing revenue, regulatory compliance and the company’s professional liability insurance program.

In his spare time, Senator Preston Smith enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, and camping. An aspiring novelist and a humorist, he writes columns for online and print publications and regularly publishes a 'Parting Thoughts' humor column in Vinings Lifestyle magazine. Senator Smith is an avid reader and enjoys both nonfiction and fiction and reads books about history and biographies of historic figures.
