As deputy chief of police for the New London Police Department in Connecticut, Peter Reichard builds on more than 25 years of experience in law enforcement. He began his career as an officer with the New Haven Police Department, where he advanced to positions of increasing responsibility, including serving as lieutenant and district manager of the Westville/West Hills Community Policing District. In this position, Peter Reichard directed three sergeants and 21 officers in one of New Haven's largest districts.

In 2006, New Haven named Peter Reichard as officer-in-charge of the newly established Information Directed Neighborhood Enforcement Team (ID-NET), in which position he successfully analyzed department data to develop crime-stopping strategies. During his time in this position, he managed operations that led to nearly 1,200 criminal arrests and more than $85,000 in drug trafficking seizures. Since then, Peter Reichard has served as manager and officer-in-charge of the department's family services division and chief of staff for the investigative services division. After retiring from the New Haven force as the assistant chief of police, he went on to serve his community in his position with the New London force and as a volunteer in the Guilford Fire Department.
